Ready for the next System Check! Industrial RF design powers automation, wireless communications, and connected systems. We want to know which technologies you think will shape its future. Where will AI have the greatest impact? System Check: Industrial RF (click to submit answers) Past results We recently asked our community members about FPGAs and whether they work with them. Let’s consider the results. System Check Results: FPGAs FPGA technology is well known within our community, though members’ practical experience varies widely. About 22% of respondents use FPGAs on a regular basis, while 32% have used them in several projects. Another 27% have experimented with FPGAs, and 19% have never used one. The results suggest interest and practical exposure. On the FPGA development front, confidence is distributed. Roughly 24% of respondents consider themselves very comfortable, while 22% feel fairly comfortable. About 29% can manage basic tasks, and 25% are uncomfortable. These findings suggest that even among technically experienced electronics enthusiasts, FPGA development remains a challenge. What prevents engineers from using FPGAs more often? Cost and hardware availability lead the list, as around 25% of respondents indicate. Development tools and workflows (18%) and the steep learning curve (17%) are also significant obstacles, followed by HDL knowledge (14%). About 11% see no need for FPGAs, while 13% report no major barriers. For our community members, FPGAs seem to have considerable appeal. But affordable hardware, approachable development environments, and practical learning opportunities could help more engineers put this powerful technology to work.
