Infineon Technologies has expanded its PSOC Control C3 microcontroller family with the new PSC3M/P6 series, combining multi-motor control, power conversion capabilities and advanced security in a single device. The new MCUs can control up to four brushless DC motors while supporting post-quantum cryptography (PQC) requirements. The launch gives European developers of industrial drives, robotics, renewable energy systems and power supplies another option for reducing component counts while addressing emerging cybersecurity requirements. It is particularly relevant as manufacturers prepare for the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the transition toward quantum-resistant security. Quad-motor control and power conversion Built around an Arm Cortex-M33 core operating at up to 180 MHz, the PSC3M/P6 microcontrollers support sensored and sensorless control of up to four brushless DC motors using a single MCU. The devices target applications requiring fast control loops, including high-RPM motors, power factor correction (PFC) and power conversion systems using wide-bandgap semiconductors. Integrated analog and digital peripherals, including on-chip operational amplifiers, enable precise signal processing and control. USB and I3C interfaces also extend the devices’ potential beyond traditional motor and power applications into smart homes, appliances, drones, telecommunications infrastructure and data centers. “These next-generation MCUs are designed for multi-motor control and power conversion systems that require high-performance, efficiency and advanced security features,” says Steve Tateosian, SVP and General Manager, IoT, Consumer and Industrial MCUs, Infineon Technologies. “As industrial applications increasingly demand faster control loops for tighter control and improved efficiency, the PSC3M/P6 MCUs give customers another option to help meet their motor, power and general-purpose design needs without increasing their footprint.” Post-quantum security for industrial systems Security is a major focus of the new family, with support for firmware protection aligned with the Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) Suite 2.0. The MCUs incorporate SHA-512 and Leighton-Micali Signatures (LMS) for secure boot and firmware update verification. They also support PSA Level 3 security enablement and DICE-based security architectures. These capabilities are intended to help equipment manufacturers address increasingly demanding cybersecurity requirements, including those associated with the EU CRA. Available now with development tools The PSC3M/P6 family is available now, with dedicated variants for motor control (PSC3M6) and power conversion (PSC3P6), and package options offering up to 100 pins. Infineon supports the devices through its ModusToolbox Power Suite and Motor Suite, providing graphical development environments, control libraries and software tools. The ecosystem also includes the ModusToolbox AI Assistant to help developers migrate existing designs to the PSOC Control platform.
