Japan-based Cellid Inc. has joined Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon START program to develop augmented reality (AR) glasses reference designs based on Snapdragon platforms. The program, known as the Snapdragon Scalable Turnkey AI-Ready Toolkit, supports the development and commercialization of personal AI devices, including smart glasses. Cellid will use Qualcomm’s START Platform solution and software development kits (SDKs) to streamline development and help device manufacturers bring products to market more quickly. (Source: Cellid Inc.) Cellid has developed AR glasses components and reference designs incorporating its proprietary optics, including wide-field-of-view waveguides, display modules and optical engines, alongside mechanical design and software development tools. Through the program, the company aims to provide manufacturers with a more integrated development framework. Cellid demonstrate its Crux binocular, full-color AR glasses reference design at the recent Augmented Enterprise Summit 2026. The design is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1 platform and combines Cellid’s waveguide and display technologies with a glasses-style form factor. Crux is intended for high-end applications, including advanced AR projects and extended reality platform development. Cellid says its optical system is designed to deliver high-resolution, bright images while retaining the wearability of conventional eyeglasses. The company plans to use its participation in Snapdragon START to help device manufacturers reduce development time and costs for Snapdragon-based AR glasses.
