What if the best place to charge your phone was somewhere you couldn’t see it? Fabuwood and FreePower have developed the InFocus Drawer, a kitchen drawer that wirelessly charges smartphones while keeping them out of sight. The goal is to make it easier to put devices aside and enjoy time with family and friends. The drawer combines Fabuwood’s cabinetry with FreePower’s free-placement wireless charging technology. Users simply place a compatible phone on the charging surface inside the drawer, without connecting a cable or worrying about precise positioning. For eeNews Europe readers, the development offers an interesting example of wireless power technology moving beyond traditional charging pads. By integrating charging electronics into furniture, manufacturers can make wireless power a built-in feature of everyday household products. How the Wireless Charging Drawer Works FreePower’s technology allows compatible devices to charge at different positions across the charging surface. This gives users more flexibility than conventional charging pads, where positioning can affect charging performance. The system is built into Fabuwood’s cabinetry, keeping charging equipment and cables out of sight. It also leaves kitchen countertops free for other activities. FreePower has been working on wireless charging technology since 2017, when it operated under the name Aira. Its second-generation technology appeared in Tesla vehicles in 2023, followed by FreePower for Countertop, designed for surfaces such as kitchen islands, restaurant counters, and workspaces. The company says it has more than 250 patent assets related to its wireless charging technology. The announcement does not specify the InFocus Drawer’s charging power, efficiency, or supported charging standards. Could a Drawer Help Us Put Our Phones Down? The idea behind the InFocus Drawer started with a simple workplace experiment. Several years ago, Fabuwood CEO Joel Epstein asked employees to put their phones away during meetings. According to the company, conversations became more engaging and collaboration improved. That experience inspired the InFocus philosophy, which encourages people to be more intentional about their relationship with technology. The new drawer brings the same idea into the home. “The drawer wasn’t where this started,” said Epstein. “The idea came first. We saw how one small change made a meaningful difference inside our own company, and it made us wonder where else that same principle could have an impact.” FreePower founder and CEO Jake Slatnick shares that approach. “We’ve always believed the best technology is the kind you don’t have to think about,” Slatnick said. Whether the drawer will actually help people reduce their screen time remains to be seen. But the concept shows how a familiar piece of furniture can gain a new function through embedded electronics. Availability The InFocus Drawer will be available beginning November 16, 2026, through authorized Fabuwood dealers across the United States. More information is available at Fabuwood and FreePower .
