Nordic Semiconductor has demonstrated the upcoming Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT) feature in silicon, positioning the company among the first vendors to show hardware support for the enhancement. Bluetooth HDT is designed to increase data transfer speeds in Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) devices by supporting longer packets and packing more data into each transmission. The feature is expected to increase maximum transfer speeds by almost four times while retaining the power efficiency of Bluetooth LE. Potential applications include wearables, smart home devices, PC accessories and hearing aids, where higher data throughput could support faster transfers without requiring a different wireless technology. Nordic plans to make the feature available through its existing software, development tools and platform, allowing customers to incorporate HDT without adopting a new software stack or changing suppliers. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is expected to release the HDT specification in late 2026. Nordic will demonstrate the technology at electronica 2026 in Munich, Germany, at booth C6 159.
