Axcelis Technologies will invest $35 million in a new ion implantation equipment manufacturing facility in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, expanding its existing manufacturing operations in the country. The facility will have approximately 200,000 sq ft of gross floor area and include warehousing, cleanrooms and a training center. Its design incorporates manufacturing practices developed through the company’s nearly 50 years of experience in semiconductor capital equipment. The new site will expand the company’s existing Axcelis Asia Operations Center in Korea. The manufacturing environment is designed to support lean production and provide greater flexibility in responding to customer requirements. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028. Axcelis President and CEO Russell Low said the investment would expand the company’s ability to serve customers as demand for advanced semiconductors grows. “We are proud to celebrate this pivotal moment for Axcelis and the next chapter of our growth in Korea. As the global economy enters the AI era, leadership in advanced semiconductors will be a cornerstone of technological progress and economic growth. This new facility will expand our ability to serve customers while building on the ingenuity of our people, whose work helps enable breakthrough technologies and a more sustainable, prosperous future for all.” Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi Ae said the investment would support the region’s semiconductor industry through additional employment and local economic activity. The provincial government will continue to provide administrative support to the project, she added, as Axcelis expands its manufacturing presence in Korea.
