A Wi-Fi connection at 35,000 feet is one thing. Knowing whether passengers can actually use it reliably is another. As airlines expand onboard connectivity , measuring the quality of that experience is becoming increasingly important. LATAM Airlines is deploying Quvia ‘s edge-to-cloud network platform to gain real-time visibility into in-flight connectivity (IFC) performance. The agreement will give the airline an independent view of network conditions and passenger experience across flights, aircraft, and routes. For eeNews Europe readers, the partnership offers an interesting look at how network monitoring is evolving beyond traditional connectivity metrics. By combining application-level data with network performance measurements, airlines can better understand what affects the passenger experience. Looking Beyond Wi-Fi Connectivity A connected aircraft can have an operational Wi-Fi network without necessarily delivering a consistent experience to everyone onboard. Network performance and the quality passengers experience when using applications are related, but they are not the same thing. Quvia’s platform combines network measurements with Quality of Experience (QoE) data at the application level. This allows LATAM to examine not only how its in-flight connectivity is performing, but also what may be affecting the experience passengers receive. The independent monitoring layer is intended to help the airline identify problems, follow performance trends, and make more informed decisions about connectivity improvements. “We want onboard connectivity to better meet our passengers’ needs. Working with Quvia will give us greater insight into Wi-Fi performance, help us identify opportunities for improvement, and inform our decisions as we continue to enhance the travel experience,” said Jaime Swett Cornejo, Director of Cabin Interior & IFEC at LATAM Airlines. Real-Time Insights Across the Fleet LATAM is expanding its onboard Wi-Fi services alongside broader investments in cabin modernization and digital services. With Quvia, the airline will be able to compare connectivity performance across different aircraft, flights, and routes. This should provide a more consistent basis for evaluating service quality as its connected cabin environment develops. The platform is designed to give operators an independent view of their networks rather than relying solely on connectivity performance information from individual service providers. “As IFC evolves, airlines have an opportunity to take greater control of the in-flight digital experience,” said Mike Moeller, SVP of Aviation at Quvia. Quvia’s broader edge-to-cloud platform also uses AI to adapt connectivity and data movement around operational priorities. However, the announcement does not specify whether LATAM will deploy those AI-based optimization capabilities as part of this agreement. For now, the focus is on visibility: understanding how onboard connectivity performs in practice and using those measurements to guide future improvements. Neither company has disclosed a deployment timeline or financial details of the agreement. The post LATAM Airlines Turns to Quvia for Smarter In-Flight Wi-Fi appeared first on eeNews Europe .
