Apple ‘s smallest tablet is getting a substantial hardware overhaul, with a new 2 nm processor, OLED display, and a major increase in on-device AI performance. The latest iPad mini introduces the A20 Pro chip alongside Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip and C2 cellular modem, bringing several of the company’s latest semiconductor technologies into its most compact tablet. The new model also features an 8.5-inch OLED display, a thinner enclosure, and IP67 water and dust resistance. For eeNews Europe readers, the most interesting developments are inside the device. The A20 Pro’s neural processing hardware, advanced graphics architecture, and improved memory bandwidth show how Apple is expanding the computing capabilities of portable devices. A20 Pro Pushes On-Device AI Performance Manufactured using Apple’s latest 2 nm process technology, the A20 Pro features a CPU with up to six cores and a seven-core GPU equipped with Neural Accelerators in every GPU core. Apple claims up to 4.5 times faster AI performance than the previous iPad mini, making the new model better suited to running local large language models and AI-powered creative applications. Graphics performance improves by up to 2.7 times, supported by dynamic caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and ray tracing. Multithreaded CPU performance is up to 60% faster, according to Apple. The 512 GB configuration adds a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, providing 32 cores for more demanding AI workloads. Apple also reports more than double the unified memory bandwidth of the previous generation. These improvements support the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI in iPadOS 27, including features that use personal context and onscreen information to respond to requests. OLED Display and New Wireless Chips The new iPad mini replaces its predecessor’s display with an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel. Despite the larger screen, the tablet maintains the same overall footprint thanks to bezels that are 24% thinner. The display offers a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and an optional nano-texture finish to reduce glare. Connectivity also receives a hardware upgrade. Apple’s N1 networking chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while cellular models incorporate the C2 modem. According to Apple, the C2 delivers up to 50% faster cellular data speeds than the previous generation while improving power efficiency. Thinner Design with IP67 Protection At 5.4 mm thick, the new iPad mini is thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It also gains an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Apple has introduced an Acoustic Display system that pairs specially designed woofers through the display, with tweeters positioned between the glass and aluminum enclosure. The tablet includes a 12 MP Center Stage front camera on its landscape edge and a 12 MP rear camera capable of recording 4K video at up to 60 fps. The new iPad mini is available for preorder starting October 28, with retail availability scheduled for November 6. Prices start at $699 in the United States, with 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB storage options. The post Apple Brings 2 nm A20 Pro Chip to New iPad mini appeared first on eeNews Europe .
