Global electronic system design (ESD) industry revenue increased 12.2% year over year to $5,710.8 million in the second quarter of 2026, up from $5,089.4 million a year earlier, according to the latest Electronic Design Market Data (EDMD) report from the ESD Alliance, a SEMI technology community. The four-quarter moving average rose 11.2%, comparing the latest four quarters with the preceding four-quarter period. “The electronic design automation industry once again reported strong year-over-year revenue growth in Q2 2026,” said Walden C. Rhines, executive sponsor of the SEMI Electronic Design Market Data report and CEO of Silvaco Group. “All product categories except Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module reported gains, with IC Physical Design and Verification, Semiconductor IP, and Services showing double-digit growth. All geographic regions reported growth in Q2, with double-digit increases in the APAC region.” Revenue by product category Semiconductor intellectual property (IP) recorded the largest year-over-year increase among the product categories, with revenue rising 20.4% to $2,199.0 million. Services revenue grew 25.1% to $251.7 million, while IC physical design and verification increased 16.6% to $818.3 million. Computer-aided engineering (CAE) revenue rose 7.7% to $2,077.6 million. Printed circuit board and multi-chip module (PCB and MCM) revenue declined 15.4% to $364.2 million. The four-quarter moving average increased 16.6% for semiconductor IP, 15.2% for services and 10.7% for CAE. IC physical design and verification rose 5.4%, while PCB and MCM declined 1.3%. Asia-Pacific records strongest regional growth Asia-Pacific (APAC) procurement of electronic system design products and services increased 22.4% year over year to $2,298.7 million. Its four-quarter moving average rose 18.3%. The Americas remained the largest reporting region, with revenue increasing 7.1% to $2,443.5 million. The region’s four-quarter moving average grew 8.6%. Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) recorded a 2.3% increase to $665.6 million, with its four-quarter moving average rising 8.6%. Japan’s revenue increased 9.3% to $303.1 million, although its four-quarter moving average declined 8.2%. The companies tracked by the EDMD report employed 71,396 people globally in Q2 2026, down 1.6% from 72,529 in the same quarter a year earlier.
