DigiKey plans to invest $100 million over the next 18 months to expand its product distribution center in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and upgrade its order management system. The investment will add high-volume picking capacity and automated packing operations to support the distributor’s same-day order fulfillment as demand grows. The first new automated packing system is already on site and is scheduled to enter service this year, with additional multi-line systems to follow. DigiKey expects revenue growth of more than 50% in 2026, with double-digit growth projected for the following year. “Our customers choose DigiKey because they know we’re fast and they know we’ll be fast tomorrow,” said DigiKey CEO Dave Doherty. “A $100 million commitment says exactly that: we’re expanding capacity and automating where it counts to keep same-day fulfillment the standard, not the exception.” The expansion builds on DigiKey’s 2.2-million-square-foot product distribution center, which opened in August 2022. The facility was designed to accommodate future growth, with space reserved for additional capacity. Planned upgrades include new picking bays, automated order retrieval and expanded packing operations to handle higher order volumes and different product formats. “Simplification creates capacity, and capacity creates growth,” said Doherty. “We’re redirecting resources from legacy work to future capabilities and investing in where we’re going, not just where we’ve been.” DigiKey serves about one million customers annually and stocks more than 1.9 million products for same-day shipment from its Minnesota distribution center.
