Samsara’s Bluetooth-based Tracking Label has been named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 in the Logistics category. Introduced in June, the disposable label helps businesses track shipments across carriers without relying on traditional barcode scans or carrier tracking systems. For eeNews Europe readers, the recognition highlights how Bluetooth connectivity and existing IoT networks can improve supply chain visibility without requiring dedicated tracking hardware in every shipment. The technology could be particularly relevant to electronics manufacturers and distributors handling high-value components and equipment. Samsara Tracking Label Uses Existing IoT Networks Unlike conventional shipment tracking, which often depends on barcode scans at specific locations, the Samsara Tracking Label provides near-real-time location updates as goods move through the supply chain. The paper-thin device transmits a Bluetooth signal detected by Samsara’s network of connected vehicles and devices. According to the company, this network covers 99% of major U.S. roads, allowing shipments to be located without requiring carriers to install additional equipment or participate in the tracking process. Each label has a 45-day battery life and contains no lithium or hazardous materials. It can travel by air, road, or rail and be disposed of without special handling. Shipping teams activate the label with a tap using the Samsara Shipment App. They can then monitor shipments through the company’s AI-powered Shipment Center, which identifies potential problems such as unexpected route changes, delays, and missed deliveries. Addressing Gaps in Shipment Visibility Cargo theft costs U.S. businesses as much as $35 billion annually, according to figures cited by Samsara. Traditional barcode-based systems can leave gaps of several days between location updates, making it difficult to respond quickly when shipments are delayed or diverted. “Our customers shouldn’t have to wait for a missed delivery to learn that something went wrong,” said David Gal, VP of Product & Engineering at Samsara. “We’re putting the reach of millions of connected devices to work for a single box. The Tracking Label makes that visibility simple to access, and the AI-powered Shipment Center helps teams decide which shipments need their attention. That means more time to solve a problem before it reaches the customer.” The system aims to help logistics teams identify shipments that need attention rather than manually checking the status of every package. Recognition Comes Amid Business Growth The TIME recognition follows the Tracking Label’s inclusion in Fast Company’s Next Big Things in Tech for 2026 and FreightWaves’ AI Excellence in Supply Chain Award. Samsara also reported annual recurring revenue exceeding $2.1 billion, representing 30% year-over-year growth. Its platform now collects more than 30 trillion data points annually, supporting its development of AI-based operational tools. More information is available on the Samsara Tracking Label website.
