HARTING has joined the NVIDIA MGX ecosystem as a power connectivity supplier for the NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 platform. The German connector manufacturer is providing high-current power cable assemblies designed to support the transition from 480 VAC distribution to 800 VDC architectures in AI data centres. For eeNews Europe readers working on power electronics and data centre infrastructure, the collaboration highlights the growing importance of high-current connectivity as AI rack densities increase. The move towards 800 VDC power distribution places additional demands on cable assemblies, electrical safety and power delivery between building infrastructure and compute racks. Power connections for NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 HARTING is supplying power whip solutions, cable assemblies that distribute electricity from building power infrastructure to individual server racks. For the NVIDIA MGX platform, the company provides a 100 A/480 VAC power whip designed for the 3RU, 110 kW power shelf used with NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72. The company is also developing a 157 A/800 VDC power whip for the next generation of NVIDIA’s power architecture. This assembly is intended to connect DC power infrastructure directly to compute racks, supporting the move towards higher-voltage distribution. 800 VDC changes connectivity requirements The shift from conventional AC distribution towards 800 VDC introduces different requirements for connectors and cable assemblies, particularly in terms of insulation, safe connection and disconnection, and reliable operation at high power levels. “As AI compute becomes more powerful and rack densities increase, the industry has to rethink power distribution from the ground up,” said Christian Gysin, Chief Technology Officer and Member of the Executive Board, HARTING Technology Group. “The transition from 480VAC toward 800 VDC is a significant step in that evolution. Connectivity must support higher power levels while delivering the reliability, safety and scalability these environments demand. That is precisely where HARTING’s engineering expertise comes into play.” HARTING is drawing on its experience in industrial power connectivity, including railway and automotive applications, to develop cable assemblies for AI data centre infrastructure. HARTING expands into AI data centre power The collaboration extends HARTING’s industrial connectivity portfolio into NVIDIA’s MGX infrastructure ecosystem, which supports modular AI computing platforms. Both the 100 A/480 VAC and 157 A/800 VDC power whip solutions were presented at the OCP Global Summit 2026 in San Jose, California, where HARTING participated in the NVIDIA MGX ecosystem showcase.
