Most smart scales measure body composition using electrodes beneath the feet. Wyze takes a different approach with its new Scale Ultra BodyScan Plus. The device uses eight electrodes to analyze muscle and fat distribution across the arms, legs, and torso. It also features a 4.3-inch color display built into the handle, allowing users to check their results without a smartphone. For eeNews Europe readers, the Wyze smart scale offers an interesting example of dual-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in consumer electronics . It also shows how built-in displays and wireless connectivity can make health monitoring devices easier to use. Eight Electrodes for Full-Body Analysis The Scale Ultra BodyScan Plus uses dual-frequency BIA to estimate body composition. This technology sends small electrical currents through the body and measures how tissues resist their flow. The eight electrodes are positioned in the platform and handle. This arrangement allows the scale to estimate muscle and fat distribution in different body regions, rather than relying only on measurements through the feet. The device tracks more than 50 metrics. These include body fat percentage, muscle mass, body water, visceral fat, bone mass, and basal metabolic rate. Wyze says the technology was developed and validated alongside clinical research institutions. However, the company has not shared specific accuracy figures. A Display That Makes the Phone Optional The most noticeable addition is the 4.3-inch full-color TFT display in the handle. Users can see their body composition, changes since their last measurement, and trends directly on the screen. They can also customize which metrics appear and their order. “The Scale Ultra BodyScan showed that people want segmental muscle and fat tracking without a $200-plus price tag or a monthly subscription,” said Jacob Pang, Hardware and IoT manager at Wyze. “With the Plus, we put the screen right in your hands. Your full breakdown, segment data, and trends are at eye level the second you step on, whether your phone’s in the other room or off entirely.” Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Offline Operation The Wyze smart scale supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Measurements can sync automatically with the Wyze app over Wi-Fi, even when a smartphone is not nearby. The scale also works offline. Users can view their measurements directly on the handle without an internet connection. It supports Apple Health, Health Connect, and Google Health integration. The device can recognize up to eight users and offers additional modes for weighing babies, pets, and luggage. The Scale Ultra BodyScan Plus became available on October 19, 2026, for $149.99 through the Wyze website. All measurement features and historical trends are available without a subscription.
